TAB Player Operation Manual

 

Section 1. Introduction.
It might be difficult to understand how to operate TAB Player, especially for those who are not used to it. Therefore, the developer decided to produce this DAISY book in order to facilitate understanding the operation of the program, which contains the details concerning various fixed settings which indicate how each setting functions. This DAISY book is divided into 12 Sections which contains the details about the program operation.

Section 2. Summery of How to Use.
1. Choose Program TAB Player from Start Menu of Windows in order to get into the program.
2. Wait for a moment so that the display shows the program window, which indicates that it is ready to open the DAISY book.
3. Insert CD-ROM of a DAISY book into the CD drive, then press Ctrl+I so that the program searches the title from the CD-ROM automatically on the display. Then choose the title of the book you want to read by moving the cursor up and down. After finding the title of the book you want to read, press Enter in order to read that book.
4. In case your DAISY book is not saved as CD-ROM data, you are able to read it by choosing NCC file pressing Ctrl+O so that you can choose Directory and TAB Player Operation Manual.
5. After choosing the title of the book you want to read successfully, the program will open either the first page of the DAISY book or the page you read up to for the last time, which means that the program is ready to read the book.
6. You can insert summary for reminder by writing as Text and Speech anywhere of a DAISY book with pressing Ctrl+N.
7. From the main window of the program you can search for the content from a DAISY book by pressing Ctrl+F. Or you can search for headings of a DAISY book by pressing Ctrl+H as well.
8. When you need to make a bookmark while reading, press Ctrl+J.
9. You can press Ctrl+D for choosing to show the details of the whole DAISY book.
10. When you are on the different windows of the program, such as window searching for data, window showing the details of a DAISY book, and window contains text and speech data, but you do not know how to use them, you can press F1 key to listen to how to use different windows at anytime. If you want to stop the voice explaining the program, you can press F3 key or Control Key.
11. When you press Ctrl+A from the main window of the program, you will see the usage agreement.

These 11 items indicates how to use the program in short. Furthermore, you can study how to use this program in details from the next section of this DAISY book.

Section 3. To Open a DAISY book from a CD-ROM Automatically.
Opening a DAISY book from a CD-ROM automatically can be used only when a DAISY book is saved as CD-ROM data, which CD-ROM disc is made especially to be a DAISY book. When you use this part of program, the program will check the CD-ROM drive to search a DAISY book automatically. Therefore, you should insert CD-ROM disc of a DAISY book into the CD-ROM drive properly before you start to use this function. Once the program finds a DAISY book (Ncc File or Discinfo File), the program will indicates the titles of all books searched in the item boxes. You can choose a title which you want to read by moving the cursor up and down. When you find the title of the book you want read, press Enter then the program will read the DAISY book you chose.

This part of the program enables to open CD-ROM drive by pressing F5 key. However, if you need the program to search again, you can press F6 key.

Section 4. To Open a Book Choosing from File.
Opening a book from file can be used when a DAISY book is saved on a media other than CD-ROM except Hard Disc, etc. Choosing a title of a book to read, you have to start from choosing drive which contains such a book. Then the program will choose the directory. Once the program finds the DAISY book in the directory (Ncc file or Discinfo file), the program will indicates the titles of all books searched in the item boxes. You can choose a title which you want to read by moving the cursor up and down. When you find the title of the book you want read, press Enter then the program will read the DAISY book you chose.

To move Focus in order to change Drive or Directory, you can do so by pressing Tab and Shift+Tab normally.

Section 5. To Search for content.
Searching for content in a book is considered to be an advantage of reading audio electronic book because it enables to search for content in a book quickly, which you can search for content from file headings? (NCC files) or document file (HTML files).

To search from NCC files, you can press Ctrl+H. For searching from HTML files, you can press Ctrl+F.

When you get into the search window, you should type the name of the content you want to search for. If you press Page Up key, the program will search in the previous pages; if you press Page Down key, it will search in the next pages. If you press Enter, the program will search in the next pages similar to pressing Page Down key. However, when you find the content you want to search, it will close the searching window automatically so that you can jump to the content you find directly.

When searching process is complete, you can jump and read the book at the point you could find by pressing F10 key or you can go back to the previous position you were at before starting a searching process by pressing Esc key.

Section 6. Looking in Details.
This DAISY book reading program has two ways of presenting information. One is to present the details of a book you are reading, which refers to the details about author, written date, length of a book, etc., by pressing Ctrl+D. The other is to tell the position where you are reading currently, which shos the details about titles, subtitles, name of title, percentage of reading, etc., by pressing Ctrl+J.

Section 7. Book Marking.
One of the most important things in reading is book mark. This program enables you to make a book mark, which the developer prepared altogether 9 book marks per book. You can place a book mark anywhere you want within a book, which you can place a book mark from the main window of the program and the window you are reading then.

When you are in the main window of the program, you can place a book mark from 1 to 9 by pressing Shift+F1 up to Shift+F9. If you want to jump to the book mark from 1 to 9, you can press Ctrl+F1 up to Ctrl+F9. If you want to erase it, you can press Shift+Ctrl+F1 up to Shift+Ctrl+F9 accordingly.

Section 8. Jumping Across Pages.
Most of audio books are transformed from ordinary books, which have page number on every page and sometimes its content refers to page numbers of a book. Therefore, it is necessary to have page numbers in the DAISY book as well. For convenient purposes, the developer developed the program to be able to jump across pages and to go back and forth including checking page numbers. In order to do this function, you can press Ctrl+P. Then the program will let you insert page number. When it is done, you can press Enter so that the program will open the page you want immediately. If you want to go to the previous page or next page, you can do so by pressing number 9 key and number 3 Key accordingly.

Section 9. Summary Note for Reminder.
In reading books, it is necessary to take summary notes for reminder. Therefore, the developer developed this TAB Player to be able to take summary notes for reminder in a book. You can save in two ways, namely text notes and audio notes. When taking notes in the text format, you can do so without limitation. However, for audio note, you can save up to 60 seconds per note, which you can do so within a book all the way. Furthermore, you can go back and forth in order to read the record you made in previous pages or next pages. When you start or stop recording sound, you can press F5 key. When you want to start or stop listening, you can press F6 . F7 can be used when erasing sound. You can use Page Up and Page Down keys to go back and forth to search the sound record you want.

Section 10. Saving Information for Future Reading.
Saving information for future reading is a benefit for those who could not finish reading a book at one time, but need to use that information in reading somewhere else. Such information contains book marks and summary notes. You can save such information in two ways: saving onto a diskette or saving as a file. You can save onto a diskette by pressing Ctrl+S. For saving as a file, you can press Ctrl+Shift+S. When you need such information for usage, you can press Ctrl+R. It is necessary to use a diskette for saving and reading information for reading, therefore, you should prepare a diskette at all times.
